Illicit Audio is all about putting the fun back into music - playing what sounds good, not what is popular, without compromising the quality of performance.

There are 4 artists in the Illicit Audio collective – Mike Mackeeg, Lofty, John Kirven & Justin Steel. Each one brings something unique to any club night but all combine talent and professionalism and have the ability to play any suitable style in any time slot.

Starting in 2005 as a club event designed to challenge the then popular music styles by providing cutting edge underground music in plush surroundings, Illicit Audio became a DJ collective who vowed to offer something different to the rest of the pack.

Since then the collective has gone on to hold a successful residency in Southampton for nearly 3 years, whose previous guests have included Mike Monday, Simon Baker, Neil Quigley and Rebekah. Aside from their residency, the collective are all successful in their own right notching up appearances at some of the best events around and gracing the decks of some of the finest clubs from Ministry of Sound to Pacha. They have also found success in the studio, with 2 EP’s released in 2008 and a string of individual and collaborative releases with more work in the pipeline. Support for their productions has come from some of the most respected names in the business including Hybrid, Hernan Cattaneo, King Unique, Luke Dzierzek and a host of others.

Always at the forefront when it comes to new ideas, Illicit Audio use any means possible to deliver their distinctive sound. Illicit Audio Live! is a new concept using Ableton Live along with a normal DJ setup to add a live element to a DJ set. Along with four or five vinyl and cd decks, you can see why Illicit Audio stands alone as masters of their craft.
